National Stress Out Day

National Stress Ĝut Day 2008

About National Stress Ĝut Day
National Stress Ĝut Day provides pre-finals stress relief to students on campuses across the country while educating them about anxiety disorders, one of the most common mental health problems on college campuses. The day reminds students to take care of themselves mentally and physically. Forty million U.S. adults suffer from an anxiety disorder, and 75 percent of them experience their first episode by age 22.

National Stress Ĝut Day will be held during the week of April 21-25; each participating campus can choose a specific day. See which colleges are participating in National Stress Out Day

Anti-stress activities

  • ScreamFest: Students let out one unified tension-breaking scream prior to finals.
  • Exam Oasis: Students can make their own stress balls, receive massages, play games, or watch a movie about a character who has an anxiety disorder, such as What About Bob? or Analyze This.
  • See the entire list of anti-stress activities.

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America and Active Minds will distribute educational materials to all participating students, who are encouraged to ask their campus counseling and health centers to participate in the events.

How to get involved
Find out if your college campus has an Active Minds chapter. If not, start your own chapter to participate in National Stress Ĝut Day, increase awareness of mental health issues on your campus, and encourage fellow students to seek help as soon as it is needed.
